The Kentucky High Court has restored a judgment worth $870 million against Stars Group.
The operator added that they still believe they can reduce the amount owed on appeal, after the Supreme Court reinstated a penalty first imposed on Stars Group (acquired by Flutter in May of this year) in 2015.
In restoring the judgment, the court added compound interest at 12% per year to the amount owed.
In 2015, Franklin Circuit Court Judge Thomas Wingate ordered PokerStars to pay $290 million, which was then tripled at the state’s request.
The judgment was the final outcome of a case against PokerStars for providing gambling services to 34,000 players in Kentucky between October 2006 (when the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) was passed) and April 2011.
Flutter pointed out that during this period, the business generated approximately $18 million in revenue from the state.
