The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) will introduce a new nationwide self-exclusion registry in the upcoming fiscal year.
This registry will encompass all authorized online and phone-based sports wagering services. Individuals can opt to exclude themselves for any duration, ranging from a quarter-year to an indefinite period.
The ACMA has designated this initiative as a primary compliance objective for the current year. Other key priorities encompass addressing identity theft, phone-based scams, and the dissemination of false information on social media platforms.
“The registry will offer a route for those seeking to modify their gambling behaviors and will complement existing consumer safeguards,” stated ACMA chair Nerida O’Loughlin.
“Upon electing to self-exclude, it will be unlawful for any licensed betting provider to establish an account for you, accept your wagers, or promote gambling services to you. The ACMA will enforce these regulations.”
Earlier this month, the ACMA urged internet service providers to block access to thepokies.net due to the website’s failure to adhere to the country’s 2001 Interactive Gambling Act.
