A recent investigation reveals that individuals who engage in slot machine play during the late hours are more prone to developing problematic gambling habits.
The research, titled “The Influence of Late-Night Electronic Gaming Machine (EGM) Use on EGM Player Behavior,” examined individuals who participate in slot machine play after dark.
The analysis discovered that a significant portion of individuals who engage in slot machine play during the late hours exhibit gambling difficulties. It also indicated that two-thirds of individuals who participate between 2 am and 8 am experience substantial adverse outcomes.
The Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority (ILGA) of New South Wales stated that it would utilize the research to guide future decisions regarding late-night gaming rules and regulations.
“As part of our legal responsibility to minimize the negative effects associated with gambling, ILGA will leverage the findings of this study to inform upcoming decisions,” stated ILGA Chair Caroline Lamb.
“ILGA has implemented a variety of measures to minimize gambling harm and address concerns regarding requests for increased gaming machine availability after midnight.
“We have established Guideline 16 to assist gaming establishments in reducing gambling harm after midnight and promoting responsible gambling.”
It is crucial that all gaming applications have a comprehensive game management strategy. This strategy should incorporate methods to assist companies in mitigating the potential risks associated with gambling issues.
The International Lottery and Gaming Association (ILGA) also has regulations in place for gaming apps to help curb gambling problems.
The research was funded by the New South Wales Government’s Responsible Gambling Fund and supported by the New South Wales Liquor & Gaming Authority. The study was conducted by Roy Morgan Research.
