The UK horse racing community has united to establish a significant new program entirely dedicated to equine well-being. Known as HorsePWR, its objective is to become the primary resource for information regarding the welfare of racehorses within Britain.

Supported by prominent racing entities such as the BHA, Great British Racing, and the Horse Welfare Board, and financed by the Jockey Club, HorsePWR prioritizes openness. The initiative will disseminate data, evaluate risks inherent to the sport, and offer an unbiased forum for addressing any welfare apprehensions.

This development follows extensive discussions surrounding the well-being of racehorses, particularly during major events like the previous year’s Grand National. Commentator Richard Hoiles highlighted the evident requirement for a singular, trustworthy source of information on racehorse welfare, a void that HorsePWR seeks to fill. The aim is to furnish the public with factual information, presented within its proper context, empowering them to develop informed perspectives.

This initiative will encompass both active racehorses and those in retirement. Gabi Whitfield of Great British Racing stressed the public’s desire for assurance that racehorses receive proper care throughout and beyond their racing careers. HorsePWR represents a commitment from the industry to maintain transparency and continuously strive for the highest standards of welfare.

This fresh program prioritizes openness regarding equine well-being. We’re addressing everything from directly confronting false information to highlighting the numerous commendable actions of the racing sector – aspects we can all take pride in.”

The drive, encompassing a website (www.horsepwr.co.uk) and visually striking posters, centers on three primary pillars: openness, accountability, and naturally, the horses’ well-being.

Robin Mounsey, leading communications at the British Horseracing Authority, stated: “HorsePWR signifies a novel strategy for the sport in discussing welfare. It’s about being truthful, open, and transparent.”

He continued, “We aim to tackle the concerns directly and furnish the public with the knowledge they require to comprehend the care devoted to these creatures.”

This endeavor succeeds a focused welfare campaign executed by the BHA during the Cheltenham Festival, a significant fixture in the horse racing schedule.
