BCLC Introduces Holiday Swap Program to Honor Staff Diversity

author By Olivia "Clover" Davis Jun11,2024

The British Columbia Lottery Commission (BCLC) recently introduced a new program that permits its staff to exchange up to six legal holidays for alternative dates that hold individual meaning. This initiative, revealed during British Columbia’s Multiculturalism Week, aims to cultivate a more welcoming work environment that honors the varied heritages of BCLC’s personnel. Staff members can opt to recognize holidays connected to their own cultural or spiritual practices, instead of being restricted by the standard statutory observances.

Sandy Austin, BCLC’s Chief People Officer, stressed that a uniform approach to holidays is ineffective in today’s diverse society. BCLC’s guidelines, she continued, must adapt to mirror the organization’s dedication to diversity and inclusion.

It’s noteworthy that the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30th is excluded from this program and will persist as a company-wide observed holiday.

BCLC has received accolades for its endeavors to establish a welcoming and inclusive workplace, achieving a five-star ranking as a Diversity and Inclusion Employer from Canadian HR Reporter in 2022. This novel holiday exchange program is but one illustration of BCLC’s continuing commitment to these principles.

Canadian HR Reporter has also commended BCLC for its work in nurturing a diverse and inclusive workplace, acknowledging the company’s persistent efforts to build a culture of belonging.

The British Columbia Gaming Commission (BCLC) is making significant efforts to provide players with an even more thrilling gaming experience. They have partnered with instant win game specialist IWG to introduce a novel game titled “Lifelong Lotto” on their PlayNow.com platform. This offers residents of BC and Manitoba the opportunity to test their fortune with a completely new type of lottery offering.
